Money Doesn't Grow On Trees

We've noticed that every time we go to a store, Emily and Liam want to buy something. I'm sure we've had something to do with that, but we don't want spoiled kids. So we recently began giving Emily and Liam a weekly allowance. That way if they want something, they have to save for it. The idea being that they will begin to understand the value of money and that it doesn't grow on trees.

At least two months ago, Liam saw an Ironman helmet and really wanted it. It's not cheap and there was no way I was going to pay for it, so I told him he had to save his money. Well, last week he hit his goal so off we went to Toys R Us. It was amazing to see how proud he was to pull out his wallet and pay for the helmet with his own money. He's been taking really good care of it as well so I think he gets it.

Tony Stark in action. The helmet 'talks' and lights up blue.

For the past two weeks, Todd and his parents have been taking turns looking after the kids. Emily and Liam enjoy having their grandparents around. And this week playing cards was a big hit. Liam's latest saying is "You dirty rat!"

May Long Weekend Tradition

Every May long weekend we head to the mountains with Todd's parents and one of his brother's family. We figure it's been nine years with the MIL/FIL and six with his brother/wife/kids. We started out in a fifth wheel and quickly upgraded to a condo. Canmore was also the original destination and for the past two years, we've gone to Banff. This year, Todd's sister and her three kids joined us. I don't think I saw Emily and Liam for more than a few minutes at a time as they love hanging with their cousins and ditching their parents. Mind you, then the parents can drink their wine in peace.

Happy Birthday, Daddy!

It was Todd's birthday this past week. Liam decided on the cake and bought him Lego Star Wars Wii. Emily gave him the original "V" series. It'll be funny to watch since it aired in the early 90's I believe. Happy birthday, sweets!

Crazy Hair

Liam decided to 'do' my hair last weekend. It only took three rounds of shampoo to return to my normal color.
