Montessori Gala - End of his Gap Year

Liam is a January baby and in Alberta, as long as a child turns five years old by March 1st, they are eligible for kindergarten that year.  However, I don't want him to be 17 when he graduates high school. So rather than having him start kindergarten at four year old, we decided to wait until he was five.  So this year, he had a 'gap' year and attended a Montessori school before heading to kindergarten this upcoming fall.  He had his year end gala this past Thursday.  And we all know he would prefer to be shoeless and just wear sweats and a t-shirt, but the gala called for semi-formal dress.  I started to plant the seed and prepare him for the idea of wearing a shirt, tie and dress shoes about 2 weeks ago.  Surprisingly he had no problem wearing his nice outfit and he definitely looked very handsome.  As I was buttoning up his top button, I had visions of his wedding day.  Made me sad and proud at the same time.

Emily, on the other hand, has no problem getting dressed up so was ready in no time.

Proud of her brother

Happy Father's Day

Today is Father's Day so of course, Todd chose the activities for the day.  He went for a run this morning while I hung out with the kids.  Then we went on a road trip to Lake Minnewanka near Banff.  Beautiful day.  The kids really enjoyed throwing and skipping rocks and then hiking around the lake.  Hopefully this gave them a taste of actual hiking and they will now be willing to try some day trips.

And of course a special Father's day to two wonderful dads in our lives.

He Has the Palette of a 40 Year Old

This was a quote describing Liam.  We went to some friend's for dinner on Friday and the hosts were amazed at Liam's eating.   A five year old eating olives stuffed with garlic, various cheeses, mussels, clams, salmon from sushi and pretty much anything else surprises just about anyone.  He definitely has a great appetite and is willing to try anything.  Food is his friend.
